VIDEO: Maritime UK Solent makes waves with charity partner Wetwheels
Maritime UK Solent got on board with their 2022/23 charity partner, Wetwheels, to give disabled people from local care homes the opportunity to enjoy life on the ocean waves.
MD of Maritime UK Solent Stuart Baker saw the charity in action when he joined residents for a spin around the Solent on a Wetwheels’ fully accessible powerboat. Wetwheels Founder Geoff Holt MBE DL chatted with guests from Brookvale Healthcare’s Mary Rose Manor and St Vincent Care, Southsea, on the specially built boat which allows people with disabilities to access the sea in a safe, stimulating and rewarding way.
Stuart Baker said: “Everyone had a great time with Wetwheels on the Solent. Thank you to our charity partner, especially Geoff Holt, for organising this amazing experience which enables so many people, who wouldn’t normally be able to access to the water, to take part. Geoff explained about the work they are doing, which is so much more than just taking people out for a trip on the water.”
Sharon Murray, Activities Coordinator at St Vincent House, added: “Wetwheels has made such a difference to our residents’ lives, it has given them freedom and such fun trips out. We are very grateful to Geoff and his crew for their kindness.”
Geoff Holt said: “It was a great pleasure to welcome our guests from St Vincents and Mary Rose Manor on board Wetwheels Solent. We had a thrilling ride on the water and talked about the charity’s work and expansion around the UK. It has been a pleasure being the Maritime UK Solent charity partner over the past year and we are grateful for their support.”
Wetwheels was the Maritime UK Solent Awards’ first charity partner at the inaugural Maritime UK Solent Awards in 2022. This year’s charity partner will be announced shortly.
