Registration opens for Women in Marine at Southampton Boat Show
The lineup has been confirmed for the popular Women in Marine event at the 2023 Southampton International Boat Show (SIBS), which returns to the show (15-24 September 2023) on Thursday 21 September 2023.
Registration is now open for SIBS’ Women in Marine day, which is sponsored by Haven Knox Johnson and Lewmar, and additionally supported by Marine Industry News, Barton Marine and Barrus. The programme involves a number of engaging events throughout the day, focused on wellness, networking, panel discussions and mentoring.
To get the day underway at 10.45am, Captain Sandy, star of the hit TV series Below Deck Mediterranean, joins the Foredeck Stage to discuss her career journey into the marine world and the challenges she has faced. Captain Sandy is also signing copies of her book Be the calm or be the storm – Leadership lessons from a woman at the helm exclusively for show visitors.
Following the positive interest and feedback after last year’s mental wellbeing session, this year features two mental wellbeing sessions at 11:15am and 2pm, on the Foredeck Stage.
Then, at 4pm, also on the Foredeck Stage, the popular Women in Marine Panel and networking event will take place. This year’s panel discussion is centred around the importance of communication in business.
“We have put together an excellent team of panellists from across the industry, to discuss their stories and provide different insights into business communication,” says Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine.
This year’s panel consists of:
• Belinda Joslin – founder of Women in Boatbuilding.
• Becky Newdick – chief officer – Wightlink Vehicle Ferries and founder of the Safer Waves Organisation.
• Emma York – social media trainer, digital marketing specialist and owner — Fresh Approach Digital.
• Rhoda Schnitzer – leadership & culture development director — Lippert Marine Group (Lewmar).
• Vicky Fox – account executive – Haven Knox-Johnston Commercial.
The panel discussion will be hosted by Lyndsay McClay, commercial manager for Marine Industry News, which will be followed by a networking session with drinks and nibbles until 6pm.
“Haven Knox-Johnston Commercial [formerly A-Plan Commercial Marine] is delighted to continue its sponsorship of Women in Marine for another year,” says Vickie Fox, account executive for Haven Knox-Johnston. “We firmly believe in the importance of championing women in the marine industry. As an advocate of equality for all, I am looking forward to joining a panel of my peers to explore how we can continue to empower each other in the industry and progress our collective future.”
British Marine’s Robinson adds: “We are delighted to be joined by such a wonderful lineup of inspirational speakers for our Women in Marine events at this year’s Southampton International Boat Show. Women in Marine always proves to be a popular day at the show, and with such a great lineup, I am sure this year will be no exception.”
Registration for the Women in Marine Mental Health and Wellbeing sessions and the panel discussion and networking event is now available via this online form. (Registration not required for Captain Sandy talk).
All visitors require a valid Southampton International Boat Show ticket to attend these events. The show is open from 10am – 6pm daily except the final Sunday (24 September), when the show will close at 5pm.
Earlier this month, METSTRADE joined forces with Marine Industry News, Soundings Trade Only and British Marine to create a LinkedIn group focused on female professionals working in the recreational marine industry: the ‘Women in the Marine Industry International’ LinkedIn group.
