Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour is shortlisted for two awards at boat show
Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour is in the running for two prestigious awards which will be announced at Southampton Boat Show in September.
The award-winning yacht harbour on the banks of the Beaulieu River is a nominee in the 2023 Haven Knox-Johnston Marina of the Year Awards by The Yacht Harbour Association.
Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour previously won the title of Marina of the Year in last year’s British Yachting awards, after receiving the most votes for its warm welcome, facilities and services for sailors. To support the yacht harbour and cast your vote in the new awards, visit https://www.tyha.co.uk/marina-awards before the 27 August deadline.
Comments made by voters on the website will also be taken into consideration by a panel of judges to award the first ever Sustainable Marina of the Year award at the boat show.
Harbour Master Wendy Stowe and her team will be at the show, Britain’s biggest festival of boating and watersports, to meet new and loyal customers. Call in for a chat and find them on the Beaulieu River stand from 15 – 24 September.
Wendy said: “We are proud to be in the running for not only one but two prestigious awards. Being nominated is an accolade in itself and shows how much our berth and mooring holders are enjoying our first-class facilities and services, as well as our commitment to providing the best possible customer care.”
Marking its recent half-century, Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour completed a £2m redevelopment to reconfigure and extend the marina as well as uphold its reputation as one of the most desired locations. The investment included installing environmentally-friendly boat pump-out and washdown facilities, to enable cleaning to be carried out in an environmentally sensitive way. Beaulieu Enterprises Ltd worked with agencies including Natural England and the Environment Agency to ensure the protection of the river’s unique habitats and species.
Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour was awarded The Yacht Harbour Association’s International Clean Marina accreditation in 2023, for its efforts to help protect the UK’s oceans and waterways. The criteria included blackwater capture and treatment, correct management of hazardous waste, spill prevention and treatment, washdown capture and filtration, drain interception, the use of sustainable products and preventing plastic pollution. The yacht harbour is also part of The Green Blue, a joint environmental programme by British Marine and the Royal Yachting Association which promotes sustainable boating for healthier waters.
The private custodianship of the Montagu family has protected the Beaulieu River for over four centuries, as one of the few privately owned rivers in the world. A key appeal is its natural beauty, tranquillity and setting at the gateway to the scenic New Forest, as a jewel of the south coast. The Beaulieu River and surrounding area form part of a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) as well as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), providing habitats for more than 200 species of birdlife.
Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour offers full marina services, an open policy boatyard and chandlery and a range of benefits. A restaurant, bar and tea shop are on the doorstep at the 18th century shipbuilding village of Buckler’s Hard, with its Maritime Museum. A packed events calendar also offers regular opportunities to bring together new and old friends in the Beaulieu River community.
