A1GP Portugal Algarve
For all those Motorsport fans out there, lookout for a new race circuit, its here in the sunny Algarve, home territory of www.boatshedalgarve.com
In an effort to simulate (in a Portuguese style) the likes of Monaco linking the glamour of the ocean and the racetrack the new Algarve circuit constructed in the hills between Portimao and Lagos Marinas had its first International motor race last Sunday. Boatshed Algarve International Yacht Brokers were their to enjoy and add to the glamour of the event which proved to be very exciting.
A1 GP unlike Formula One is designed as an even match between cars and engine which are all the same, thus leaving the skill of the drivers, together with the efficiency of the teams and management of tactics as the key to success.
Its not surprising that many of these qualities are also found within successful sailing teams and dare I say Boatshed.com franchises.
The Dutch team won the morning sprint race and were on pole position for the main feature race, however, disaster struck when the car caught fire on the warm up lap before the start. This left the way open for the Irish team who were on the grid in second place, in their keenness to get away they jumped the lights and were penalised with a stop and go, excitement increased when Portugal temporarily took the lead, however, the local hopes were dashed when the efficient Swiss driver overhauled them and took the chequered flag.
The New Zealand team in typical Kiwi fashion rammed the South Africans from the rear and both cars failed to complete. A supporting cast of Ferraris filled the gaps between races and a thoroughly good day was had by all.
