Along with one of largest annual gatherings of gaff-rigged boats in the UK, with up to 100 boats attending, the ‘ Yarmouth Sea Songs Festival’ will be taking place once again on The Green, opposite  Yarmouth Harbour.

Following the growing success and popularity of the Sea Songs Festival, the event this year has expanded to four days, will have a larger marquee and even more acts and performers.

Confirmed acts so far include a range of both island and mainland performers, including the Brighstone Barnacles, Afterguard, Abacus, Steve Love with Liane Briggs, Mark Hickman and Kathy Grimshaw, The Crew, Coppersmith, Ave Vita, Solent Shanty Buoys, Short Drag Roger, Rona Singers, RUG Band, Month’s Advance, Shalfleet Shanty Singers, Freshwater Ukulele Band,  She Shells, Eremue Folk, Shtum,  Slipshod Singers, Lesley Tregear, The Watch, Drywood, Spinnaker Shanty, Giddyganders and Second Time Around.

Some of the acts will also be appearing at various venues around Yarmouth over the weekend in addition to on the main stage in the marquee on Yarmouth Green.

The event kicks off on 26 May with performances running into early evening – with the formal ceremony taking place around 16:00 and featuring pupils from the local primary school. Performances will again carry on from mid-morning to early evening on the rest of the days, with food, ice cream, an Island Ales beer tent as well as children’s entertainment, to ensure that visitors can relax and enjoy the event.

On Monday evening, the celebration will come to a dramatic close starting around 16:00 with the ever popular ‘Fantasia of Sea Songs’ including renditions of such favourites as ‘Rule Britannia’ – complete with flag waving and audience participation.

Thanks to the generous support of Yarmouth Harbour, Island Brewery, Wight Link and others, there will be no charge to access the event but collections will be made to raise funds for the Needles NCI – National Coastwatch – for which the festival has raised several thousands of pounds to date.
