Watch: Lifeboat weaves through narrow tunnels to save dog in cliff fall rescue
The Arbroath RNLI lifeboat crew navigated through an exceedingly steep and narrow gully between the Arborath cliffs last week in an effort to save a dog that had fallen from the cliff edge above.
The inshore lifeboat was launched and the crew threaded the vessel through the narrow gully to reach the rocks that cocker spaniel Skye had climbed onto from the water.
With the width of the gully being narrower than the lifeboat, a member of the volunteer crew entered the water on a swim line and made his way to the rocks where he was able to check on the dog and recover her to the lifeboat.
Skye was then transported back to the lifeboat station to be reunited with her owner and then onto the vets for a check over.
Volunteer helm, Michael Marr, says: “We were pleased to be able to rescue Skye today and that the owners did the right thing by calling for assistance, and not trying to climb down the cliffs where they could potentially become a casualty themselves.
“Skye was very unlucky in that she found and chased a ball that wasn’t even hers! However, the RNLI always advise dog owners keep their dogs on the lead around cliffs to prevent these incidents occurring.”
