Vision Marine launches ‘100% recyclable’ electric boat for US market
Vision Marine Technologies is launching what it describes as a ‘100 per cent recyclable boat’, called the Phantom, for the US leisure marine market.
Canada-headquartered electric boatbuilder Vision Marine has formed a partnership with Nautical Ventures Group as its sole and exclusive distributor of the fully recyclable rotomolded plastic boat for the state of Florida, and a non-exclusive distributor dealership agreement for the US.
This agreement includes Nautical Ventures’ agreement to purchase a minimum of 50 Phantoms in the first year with a retail value of $1.5 million.
Already a key player in the electric boating market – in July 2022, Groupe Beneteau announced it would integrate Vision Marine Technologies outboard motors across several models in its brand portfolio – Vision’s new Phantom is its first recyclable electric boat.
Vision Marine’s designers and manufacturing team make use of recyclable polyethylene plastics in its roto-moulding process in order to produce a lightweight, unsinkable, and indestructible hull that can comfortably accommodate a crew of ten and can handle any outboard motor up to 50hp.
According to Vision Marine, the lightweight hull is purposefully adapted for electric propulsion and easy hauling. The Phantom is 30 per cent lighter than its fibreglass counterpart, says Vision, and The Phantom’s plastic alloy provides various colours and new phosphorus-glowing materials.
“We have been active marketing partners with Vision Marine since 2018, having carried its electric boat line,” says Roger Moore, CEO of Nautical Ventures Group. “Alex Mongeon and his team are always on the cutting edge of innovation, and we embrace this new partnership going forward.”
Vision Marine’s flagship outboard E-Motion powertrain is a fully electric purpose-built outboard powertrain system that combines an advanced battery pack, inverter, and high-efficiency motor with proprietary union assembly between the transmission and the electric motor design utilising extensive control software.
The Phantom is USCG, CCG, and C.E. certified.
