VIDEO: Watch harrowing footage of bulk carrier destroying pier

A bulk carrier has destroyed a pier after losing control in Barranquilla Port, in Colombia.

Media reports suggest that the Hakata Queen was aiming to leave with 30,000 tonnes of coal onboard, prior to the incident occurring on Friday morning (9 September 2022).

The footage below shows the incident. It’s taken on a mobile phone showing the vessel drifting sideways as two workers make a dash for safety.

Hakata Queen then seemingly dropped anchor and was brought under control. She was then taken to an outer anchorage, where an investigation will be undertaken to find the cause of the incident.

Just last month (August 22), a skipper was counting the cost of a decision to try and pass under a bridge on the Scheldt-Rhine Canal near Rilland after his boat’s wheelhouse was destroyed. The 135m Southford was on its way to Kreekak locks, from Antwerp.
