VIDEO: Luxury yacht bursts into flames in Queensland marina

Dramatic footage shows a Sunseeker 82 yacht engulfed in plumes of thick black smoke this morning (24 October) at Hamilton Island marina in Queensland, Australia.

The 25-metre luxury yacht is understood to be named Time Out.

Queensland Ambulance reports that the vessel had been ablaze since 10am local time, with paramedics rushing to the scene shortly after. Police say that nobody was on board at the time the fire broke out. A man in his 40s and a man in his 60s have been assessed for smoke inhalation, according to broadcaster ABC, with no other injuries reported.

A spokesperson from the Queensland Police Service said officers had to travel from Airlie Beach to attend the scene. The fire lasted around five hours, with attempts to douse the flames hindered by windy conditions.

The hull is now smouldering in the marina, but the flames have finally been extinguished. No other vessels in the marina have reported any damage.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing. Local emergency services are working to stop pollution from spreading around the site of the fire, and preventing the hull from sinking.

This is the latest in a long list of yacht disasters that have occurred this year. Last month, a massive marina fire destroyed four luxury yachts in Greece, after a large blaze broke out at Gouvia Marina on the island of Corfu. The 49m superyacht 007 also capsized in Greece in September after running aground in Kythnos. The 28m Sunseeker Black Diamond was destroyed in a fire last month, at the IMS Shipyard in Saint-Mandrier, France.
