VIDEO: Containership capsizes in port, and sinks
Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has confirmed that 24 containers were lost from the Sea Eagle after it keeled over in Iskenderun Port on 18 September 2022. The video below shows the moment when workers flee as the weight distribution becomes untenable.
İskenderun Limanı’nda bağlı SEA EAGLE isimli konteyner gemisi yük dağılımındaki dengesizlik nedeniyle su almış ve yan yatmış sonrasında da batmıştı. Mürettebat yara almadan kurtulmuştu.

The ministry says further efforts to balance the ship didn’t work and it subsequently sank.
However, all of the 24 containers that fell into the sea have now been recovered. Booms were placed around the site to control a minor oil leak and none of the crew suffered any injuries. An investigation into the incident will take place.
Seemingly efforts are underway to pump the remaining oil from the vessel, with 63.5 tons of oil recovered already.
