Temo T450

French electric propulsion specialist Temo has announced the establishment of its US subsidiary, Temo USA, based in Delaware, with an operational unit in Portland, Maine. This expansion includes a logistics centre to handle goods and after-sales service, as well as sales offices with a dedicated team.

In January, Temo confirmed its intention to expand in the American market after completing a €6m Series A financing round and expanding across Europe.

Temo’s first product, the Temo.450 electric motor, which is designed for tenders and light boats, has gained popularity among American boaters. Since its launch in 2019, over 5,000 units have been sold globally, including 300 in the US and Canada over the past year. The establishment of Temo USA is intended to streamline the supply chain for its dealer network and meet the increasing demand in the North American market.

Temo, based in Brittany, France, was founded in 2018 by Alexandre Seux and Justine Perussel.

Seux, who is also president of Temo, says: “Establishing the company in the United States is a key step in our business development. It should enable us to strengthen our presence in the field and rapidly gain market share in this territory, which we know has strong potential. The electrification of pleasure boating is a growing topic in North America, and our motors offer a simple, comfortable alternative for getting started with electric boating.”

“Boaters who enjoy sailing cruises and inland waterways can benefit from quick installation and quiet outings on the water,” says Nick Steenberg, Temo USA business development manager. “The main reason people choose the Temo.450 is for how lightweight it is. The Temo.450 only weighs 11lbs, and everyone can easily install it on board.”

The Temo.450 has been recognised with innovation awards in the USA, including the Pittman Award in 2021 and an IBEX Award in 2023.

Temo USA, which is currently seeking new resellers, will showcase the Temo.450 at the Annapolis Sailboat Shows this autumn, including a new carbon version. Temo says this updated version offers extended range, featuring a 372Wh or 12.8Ah battery capacity, and comes with a five-year warranty.
