Sanctuary Cove Boat Show boss confirms sudden exit
Mulpha Events, organiser of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) in Australia, has announced the resignation of general manager Johan Hasser, who has left his role after 12 years.
Hasser will finish up at Mulpha Events on Friday (17 January 2025), four months out from the next show. He told the Gold Coast Bulletin he had no “immediate plans” but wanted to “remain involved in the Gold Coast’s future”.
According to Patrick Lonergan, head of hotel, hospitality and leisure at Mulpha Australia, “Johan has taken the show to new heights, making it a key event in the marine industry worldwide. His contribution extends far beyond SCIBS, with the events division growing significantly under his guidance.”
Hasser departs following a record-breaking 2024 SCIBS, which featured 335 exhibitors, 43,741 attendees, 767 boats, 102 product launches, and over 2,500 marine products.
“I am immensely proud of what my team and I have achieved at Mulpha Events,” says Hasser. “The growth of SCIBS and the addition of new events reflect our passion and commitment to excellence. I am confident Mulpha Events will continue to thrive.”
The organisation’s 2025 calendar includes SCIBS in May, the Gold Coast Festival of Golf alongside the Australian WPGA Championship in March, the recently acquired Australian Adventure Expo in March, and the delivery of the Sydney International Boat Show, which had a smaller-than-average edition last year due to ongoing market contraction.
Corey Rattray-Wood will oversee the team until a new leader is appointed.
“With a strong foundation and a growing portfolio, Mulpha Events is focused on creating exceptional experiences for attendees, exhibitors, and partners,” Lonergan says. “We thank Johan for his outstanding contribution and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Recruitment is underway to appoint a new leader at Mulpha Events. In the interim, senior events manager Corey Rattray-Wood, who worked closely with Hasser, will oversee the team.
“Corey has been a key part of our success and will ensure continuity as we prepare for an exciting year ahead,” adds Lonergan.
