Hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club, The Salcombe Gin July Regatta will take place this weekend (09-10 July) with a weekend of well-managed racing and fun ashore. The third regatta of the Royal Southern YC Summer Series will once again feature two racecourses in the Solent with eight classes for keelboats and sportsboats.

In White Group, the J/70 Class will be competing for Round Three of the UK Sprint Series and will be joined on the windward leeward course by the SB20 Class. In Black Group, the HP30 Class have a strong showing with ten boats already entered. The pocket rocket Cape 31s are back in action, as is the highly competitive J/111 Class. A huge variety of keelboats will race in three IRC Classes, including Ian Atkin’s GP42 Dark ‘N’ Stormy, who took Line Honours and the Gold Roman Bowl in last month’s Round the Island Race. Over 200 hundred sailors are expected to be competing in the Royal Southern’s Salcombe Gin July Regatta.

After two regattas in the Royal Southern Summer Series, class leaders are emerging for the overall standings for the four-regatta series. Competing crews will be looking for that ‘ice and a slice’ for the Salcombe Gin July Regatta.

In Black Group, Rob Bottomley’s Mills 40 Sailplane leads the IRC One for the season. In IRC Two Mike Bridges’ JPK 1010 Elaine Again is leading. In IRC Three, Ian Handley & Tim James racing Mustang 30 Banter is in pole position. In the J/111 Class Paul Griffiths’ Jagerbomb leads by a single point from Cornel Riklin’s Jitterbug. Jerry Hill’s Farr 280 Moral Compass leads the HP30 Class, and Russell Peters’ Squirt is the leader in the Cape 31 Class.

In White Group, Paul Ward’s Eat Sleep J Repeat leads the J/70 Class in the Open Division with Ian Poynton’s Powder Monkey as the top Corinthian J/70. In the SB20 Class, Charlie Whelan’s Breaking Bod is the series leader.

The Royal Southern’s prestigious facility on the Hamble River will utilise the expansive Den’s Deck for al fresco social gatherings before and after racing. The purpose-built Royal Southern Clubhouse will welcome all competitors for the duration of the regatta with breakfast and dinner options available for all competitors, family, and friends. The Salcombe Distilling Co. will be providing daily prizes, plus complimentary Salcombe Gin Cocktails after racing.
