Rolls-Royce and Sunseeker extend decades-long partnership
Rolls-Royce business unit Power Systems and Sunseeker International have signed a new framework agreement at boot Düsseldorf that’ll see Rolls-Royce continue to provide Sunseeker with mtu Series 2000 engines until at least 2025.
“We are delighted to renew and extend our cooperation with Rolls-Royce on mtu propulsion and automation solutions,” says Andrea Frabetti, CEO of Sunseeker International (above right). “Over several decades we have jointly developed and implemented innovative solutions for our customers. We are certain that Sunseeker, Rolls-Royce and our customers will benefit from the continuation of this partnership.”
The agreement covers the delivery of various versions of the mtu 12V and 16V 2000 yacht engines, covering a power range from 1,950 to 2,640 hp per engine. The mtu propulsion solutions will provide main propulsion to Sunseeker yachts in a broad range of models such as 88 Yacht, 95 Yacht, 100 Yacht, 116 Yacht, 131 Yacht and Ocean 460.
“We are delighted that Sunseeker once again reaffirms its trust in our mtu propulsion and automation solutions and we look forward to continuing our cooperation,” says Denise Kurtulus, vice president global marine at Rolls-Royce business unit power systems (above left). “This agreement is further proof that mtu solutions are setting the benchmark in yacht applications.”
IMO III-compliant mtu propulsion solutions with a mtu SCR system are available as an option for the 116 Yacht, 131 Yacht and Ocean 460 yachts. The agreement also covers the proven mtu NautIQ BlueVision NG_Basic automation solutions.
Rolls-Royce has been Sunseeker’s supplier of choice for engines powering yachts with a length of 20 to 47 metres for almost 30 years and has already delivered more than 1,000 mtu engines to Sunseeker. The power systems unit is currently trying to transform from an engine manufacturer to provide integrated sustainable power and propulsion solutions for marine customers. Rolls-Royce is also working with Lürssen to develop the use of methanol as an environmentally friendly fuel for superyachts.
Sunseeker also revealed its much anticipated new Sunseeker Superhawk 55 for the first time at 2023’s boot Düsseldorf.
