A Guinness World Record attempt for the most signatures on one supercar will take place at Gunwharf Quays this weekend, at this year’s annual Spinnaker Supercars event.

The Spinnaker Supercars event, held on Saturday 29th July, will see more than 125 classic and supercars on display at Gunwharf Quays to raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and the Spirit of Normandy Trust (SONT).

Guests will be asked to sign their names on a Ferrari 812 Superfast, which has been wrapped in white for the event. At the last Spinnaker Supercars event, a Koenigsegg CCX was wrapped and signed with the public’s messages, including two marriage proposals.

What’s more, World War Two vehicles will be on display all day, alongside cars from movies such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Fast and Furious, and Transformers.

This year’s Spinnaker Supercars event will also include fund-raising volunteers abseiling down the 100-metre-tall Spinnaker Tower. Four D-Day veterans will attend the event, who will be driven to Gunwharf Quays in a fleet of Rolls Royce and preceded by the SONT Standard Bearer and Pipe Major on arrival.

Co-founder of Spinnaker Supercars, Barry Firth, said: “We are looking for more than 5,000 signatures on the day to achieve the Guinness World Record.

“We are trying to raise as much money for the D-Day veterans and the Naval charity as we can. The funds raised will be split between the two charities, with the RNRMC funds being used to support serving and former RN and RM and their families. Whilst the SONT funds will be used to help surviving D-Day and Normandy Veterans return to Normandy next year for the 80th commemorative anniversary of D-Day.”

Co-founder of Spinnaker Supercars, Michelle Leney, added: “It is great to be back doing the event again and very exciting to have such great support from all the drivers, Gunwharf Quays, and our volunteers. It is going to be another busy but very rewarding day for all involved.”

Yvonne Clay, Centre Director at Gunwharf Quays, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome back the Spinnaker Supercars event to Gunwharf Quays for 2023. The team creates such a fantastic spectacle for our guests to enjoy, and all for a very worthy cause. We wish them the best of luck for their Guinness World Record attempt.”

The Spinnaker Supercars event will run from 10am-5pm on Saturday 29th July at Gunwharf Quays. For more information, please visit https://spinnakersupercars.co.uk/ or https://gunwharf-quays.com/
