Porto Montenegro achieves the first Clean Marina accreditation in Europe
The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) has awarded the Porto Montenegro superyacht marina with its nationally recognised Clean Marina accreditation.
Porto Montenegro, which is located on the Unesco-protected Bay of Kotor, is the first marina in Europe to be awarded this international accreditation.
The newly developed International Clean Marina Programme conducts a rigorous assessment of a marina’s services, procedures, and amenities. The accreditation is designed to deliver a clear and recognisable identity for marinas, yacht and boat clubs, slipways, boatyards, and associated industry operators worldwide. The voluntary accreditation system paints a picture of their achievements in consistently using practices that reduce environmental impact.
The goal of the Clean Marina Programme is to reduce ‘non-point source pollution’ associated with boating and marina facilities, and to promote clean water, clean air and help marina industry businesses to thrive.
Porto Montenegro, which offers 460 berths, says it is ‘pioneering’ in its sustainable practices.
In 2017, Porto Montenegro was crowned as the first marina in the world to receive a 5 Gold Anchor Platinum accreditation, which is the highest level of award by the Marina Industries Association (MIA), a global programme administered in collaboration with the TYHA.
Porto Montenegro is now the first marina to receive both the Clean Marina and the Platinum-status accreditation.
