New Zealand Boat Show to go ahead
Organisers of the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show have confirmed the event is to go ahead in May as planned, following a government announcement regarding New Zealand’s Covid-19 framework.
The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show is scheduled to run from 12-15 May at Auckland Showgrounds and features exhibitors from leisure marine and fishing, including boats, engines, electronics and accessories.
With Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern saying this week she is keen to remove restrictions as soon as possible, show organisers say they believe there is a very good chance that, on 4 April, the government will announce that New Zealand will move from red to orange, either immediately or within the next couple of weeks. Under the orange setting, there will no longer be any limits on the number of people able to attend an indoor or outdoor event.
‘This news is a positive boost for the 2022 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show,’ the organiser says in a statement. ‘So, too, was the announcement that the current traffic light settings will be reviewed on 4 April.’
The boat show is also home to NZ’s largest fishing supermarket with retailers showcasing their latest rods, reels and tackle.
Last year’s event, held in May, attracted 39,094 visitors. The full exhibitor list is set to be revealed on 3 May.
In February, Marine Industry News reported that the 2022 Auckland Boat Show, due to take place 17-20 March, had been cancelled due to ongoing covid restrictions. The news came after the 2020 and 2021 editions of the show were both cancelled due to uncertainty over covid restrictions.
