Yacht charter in Ibiza

The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) and the European Boating Industry (EBI) have introduced a set of International Standard Charter Terms and Conditions in partnership with Yacht-Pool International.

Yacht-Pool, a company known for its charter insurance offerings, introduced the Faircharter Contract over 15 years ago, and was designed to address the interests of both charter companies and their customers.

The two industry associations say the new International Standard Charter Terms and Conditions build upon the principles of the Faircharter Contract, which is already in use in parts of Europe. The updated terms have been developed through collaboration between Yacht-Pool and a working group comprising members of ICOMIA and EBI with charter industry experience.

The new terms and conditions are designed to provide a standardised, international framework for charter contracts. The objectives are to:

  • Support charter providers and associated agencies with legally compliant agreements that adhere to relevant regulations.
  • Establish a fair balance of interests between charter parties, promoting a uniform, cross-industry approach to charter agreements.

“These International Standard Charter Terms and Conditions developed in association with EBI and Yacht-Pool show how the recreational marine industry can come together to work on a joint project that will benefit many,” says Joe Lynch, CEO of ICOMIA. “We hope that they will be widely used across the industry, and we thank the members of the Charter Working Group for the work they put in to get this project to the finish post.”

Philip Easthill, secretary general of EBI, adds: “It is important that there is a fair and consistent approach towards consumers and a harmonisation of industry practice that includes all parties: consumers, agents and charter companies.”

Earlier this year, EBI and ICOMIA renewed their partnership agreement. The two industry associations say the refreshed agreement aims to foster collaboration and advance the interests of the European and global recreational boating industry.

EBI, representing the European boating and nautical tourism industry, and ICOMIA, representing global marine industry associations, say the three-year strategic partnership agreement is based on their shared commitment to promoting sustainability, innovation and growth within the recreational boating industry.
