Icom introduces ‘ultra compact’ IC-U20S licence-free radio
Marine radios and handheld VHF radio specialist Icom has launched the new IC-U20SR PMR446 licence-free two-way radio.
Operating on the PMR446 frequency band, the IC-U20SR requires no licence ‘out of the box’, allowing users to communicate without regulatory restrictions.
Icom says its ‘ultra compact’ design and features, including long battery life, means it is suitable for both business and leisure users. The large LCD and simple buttons are also designed to make this radio easy to use for staff who may have minimal radio operation experience.
The IC-U20SR measures 50mm(w) x 26.7mm(d) x 94mm(h), and weighs in at 156 grams. Despite its small, lightweight body, the IC-U20SR is built to withstand challenging environments. The radio is waterproof to IP54 and approved by military certification MIL-STD810-G to protect it against dust, water splashes and shock.
With its supplied BP-304A, 2350 mAh lithium-ion battery, the IC-U20SR also offers users extended hours of communication (up to 21 hours).
“We are excited to introduce the IC-U20SR PMR446 licence-free two way radio,” says Ian Lockyer, marketing manager at Icom UK. ‘With its ultra-compact size, stylish but durable body and performance, it is a cost-effective solution for businesses and individuals in various industries ranging from retail, and hospitality to warehousing and construction.
“We also believe the attractive, stylish design of the IC-U20SR will appeal to new radio users who need reliable communications but maybe have not been attracted to traditional two-way radio solutions.”
In 2022, Icom’s IC-M510 fixed VHF/DSC marine radio won at the prestigious iF Design Awards. The IC-M510 won in both the ‘product’ and ‘telecommunication’ categories.
The IC-U20SR PMR446 licence-free two-way radio is now available through authorised Icom dealers.
