Hyundai to demo autonomous nav solution for leisure boats
Avikus, HD Hyundai’s autonomous navigation in-house startup, will be showcasing Neuboat, an autonomous phase-2 navigation solution for leisure boats, at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (stand 627, 26 – 30 October).
Avikus NAS allows a boat to recognise and assess on-the-water situations in real-time and without human intervention through deep learning and sensor fusion algorithms. As this data is processed, NAS creates and maintains an optimal route for safe autonomous navigation and allows users to experience the autonomous navigation process through its augmented reality screen. The company says boaters can also control navigation from anywhere on board the boat with a mobile device.
Neuboat also uses Avikus DAS technology for docking. This utilises a 3D surround view system and collision warning alarm.
Autonomous cruising live demonstrations for boat OEMs and electronics manufacturers will take place at the port marina, email to apply for a demo.
In January 2022, MIN reported that Avikus was collaborating with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to specialise in autonomous navigation technologies for ships. And in June, the company successfully conducted the world’s first transoceanic voyage of a large merchant ship relying on autonomous navigation technologies.
