Boxing Day Boatshed Beers: Celebrate the Departure of the McIntyre Mini Globe Race!

Boatshed is proud to support the McIntyre Mini Globe Race (MMGR) alongside the Golden Globe Race (GGR) and Ocean Globe Race (OGR). To mark the occasion and give the sailors a memorable send-off, we’re inviting crews, families, and friends to join us for a relaxed Boxing Day get-together.

Event Details:

When: 26 December at 1500 to 1800.

Where: Lighthouse Bar, Upstairs Main Building, Lagos Marina, Portugal

What: A casual Boatshed-themed gathering—beers, stories, and good company.

The MMGR is an extraordinary tribute to traditional ocean sailing, and this is the perfect opportunity to raise a glass to the brave sailors as they prepare to embark on this historic journey.

Come along, share some tales of the sea, and soak up the camaraderie before the big day.

Theme: Casual and relaxed—just bring yourself, your stories, and your love of sailing!

Let’s give these sailors the send-off they deserve—see you there!

Cheers :)

Boxing Day Walk 1200 Meet at Marina Gates.

This Boxing Day, we’re adding a special treat for those who want to stretch their legs and enjoy some fresh air! Join us for Neil Chapman’s current daily thinking walk. Neil uses this 6km walk to reflect, plan, and sometimes chat with his AI or take calls, but this time he’ll be more social, walking with crews from the boats and their friends and family.

We’ll meet at the marina gate close to B pontoon at 12:00 sharp before setting off on this scenic route. The path is flat, taking us along the boardwalk, beach, and shoreline paths, keeping us close to the water. If we choose to pause midway, there’s a chance to enjoy a coffee or beer in Meia Praia, a historic, quaint, and traditional Portuguese fishing village with one charming coffee bar and a tiny shop tucked into someone’s house.

The walk is a perfect way to connect before the festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. It’s also an ideal way for sailors to get close to the ocean and take in the current conditions in Lagos Bay, including the prevailing winds—just as Neil does each day. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to prepare for the Mini Globe Race departing on the 28th.

The walk should take about an hour and a half, or two hours with stops. All 5.8 crew, friends, and family are warmly invited to join us—no charge, just bring yourselves!

Cheers,

Neil
