Body found in marina; man initially suspected of foul play released
A man suspected of murdering a woman after she was found in the Thames and Kennet Marina has been released with no further action.
Thames Valley Police launched an investigation into the woman’s death after she was found dead on Saturday (1 April 2023).
According to the Reading Chronicle there has been a police watch at the scene since the discovery of the body, and a cordon was in place at the marina.
“Following the discovery of a woman’s body in the Thames & Kennet Marina, Henley Road, Caversham, yesterday morning, an investigation was launched to ascertain the circumstances of her death,” says a spokesman from Thames Valley Police.
“Officers were called to the scene at just after 10.30am following reports of a woman in water, and tragically, she was declared deceased at the scene.
“A man was arrested in connection with the investigation, but he has now been released with no further action to be taken.
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we investigate the circumstances. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the woman who has died.”
Officers recovered the body from water at the Thames and Kennet Marina in Caversham, Reading, shortly after being called to the scene at 10:30 BST.
Police have appealed for information, reports the BBC.
“We are in the very early stages of this investigation . . . . I would urge the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the woman’s death, which is being treated as unexplained at this time.
“There is currently a scene-watch in place at the location, and will be in place for some time while our investigation continues,” says Det Insp Richard Pickering.
“Although the death is being treated as unexplained, we do not believe there to be any danger to the local community, and we are conducting a full and thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances of this tragic incident.”

Earlier in 2023, MIN reported that an investigation was underway after a man and dog were found dead on a canal boat following a fire. The burnt-out boat was discovered on the Shropshire Union Canal, moored between Penkridge and Wolverhampton.
