Barrus appoints new roles including head of marine
Barrus, a leading UK importer and distributor or marine equipment, has announced strategic restructuring plans for its marine operations, recognising the emerging talent that will drive the continued growth and expansion of its marine businesses.
As part of the new structure, Barrus has made changes to its leadership team and added additional tiers of management:
- Tim Hart, sales and marketing director, continues to have oversight of the marine divisions, in addition to the other divisions of Barrus’s overall business.
- Ben Allen, general manager, marine leisure, will take on a new role as head of marine. Allen will lead the business groups, including marine outboard engines and boats, inboard engines, marine equipment, special products and power systems across the leisure and commercial sectors.

- Mark Coleman, general manager, special products, R&D and production, has agreed to continue his support of the company by focusing on key MoD and RNLI customers while supporting David Etherington-Smith in his new role.
- David Etherington-Smith, sales manager, special products, will take on a new role as sales manager, special products division and R&D, reporting to Ben Allen. Etherington-Smith will be responsible for commercial projects working with specialist organisations on applications including inflatable and rigid inflatable rescue craft, patrol boats, fishing and workboats and unmanned craft.
Robert Muir, outgoing managing director of Barrus, says: “We are delighted to make these exciting appointments, to reflect the hard work and effort put into our business by Ben and David, allowing them the opportunity to grow and develop, whilst being supported by the experience and wisdom of both Tim and Mark.
“Our dedicated customer-focused teams will enable us to better serve our customers and be more responsive to market and channel trends as we continue to expand our presence in the marine market.”
In September, Barrus also appointed Craig Gutteridge as area sales manager for the south of England for its marine leisure division.
